Pitt Lake is a great outdoor, nature spot for engagement photos in B.C. With the mountains, water, trees, and open grassy areas, there are so many ways to make a session feel different depending on the couple and what they have in mind. Even when the area gets busy, there's enough space to find a spot that works for us.
For Janine and James, we planned a session with two outfits and a picnic setup inspired by their own ideas. I loved bringing their vision to life and creating a little space for them to sit together, relax, and enjoy the moment. They loved the setup, and it made the session feel personal to them.
After the picnic, we explored more of Pitt Lake and made the most of the natural scenery. Here are some of my favourite photos from their session.

Planning Your Own Pitt Lake Engagement Photos

If you love nature, mountain views, and being outdoors, Pitt Lake is a beautiful place for engagement photos. There's a lot of variety in one area, which means we can create a gallery with different backdrops without spending the whole session driving between locations.
Here are a few things to keep in mind when planning your session:
- Bring comfortable shoes. We'll likely walk between a few spots, and some areas can be uneven or muddy. Bring comfortable shoes for walking and change into your preferred shoes when we're ready to take photos.
- Plan your outfits around the setting. Neutral colours, earthy tones, and softer colours work beautifully against the greenery, water, and mountains. You don't have to match perfectly, but choosing outfits that complement each other helps the photos feel cohesive.
- Consider an outfit change. Two outfits can give your gallery a little more variety. You might choose something dressier for one part of the session and a more relaxed look for the other.
- Make the session personal. If there's something you both enjoy doing, we can build it into the session. A picnic, a favourite snack, or another simple idea can give you something to do together and make the photos feel more like you.
- Be prepared for the outdoors. The weather can change, and the ground may be wet even when it isn't raining. Bring a small towel, water, and an extra layer if needed. We'll work with the conditions on the day.
- Choose the timing carefully. Weekday evenings can be a good option for a quieter experience, while sunset often gives us beautiful light. We'll consider the season, weather, and light when choosing a start time.
- Stay flexible with the locations. Pitt Lake can get busy, especially during popular times. One of the things I love about shooting here is having different areas to work with, so we can find a suitable backdrop and make the most of the session.
