I absolutely love downtown Vancouver engagement sessions. There's something about the city streets, architecture, and little tucked away spots that makes these sessions so much fun, especially when couples are happy to explore and enjoy the experience together.


Zoe and Henry's session was a great example. They dressed up in formal outfits that suited the downtown setting perfectly. They told me they had no idea how to pose, but that's completely fine. I'll guide you with simple poses and prompts, then give you room to interact naturally. A few minutes in, they were already much more comfortable and the moments started to flow on their own.

Planning Your Downtown Vancouver Engagement Photos

 

A little planning makes a big difference, so here are a few things I recommend when planning your session;


  • Choose a quieter time. Saturday mornings and weekday evenings are usually great options. Saturday mornings can give us quieter streets, while weekday evenings offer a different atmosphere and beautiful late-day light, depending on the season.



  • Look beyond the busiest streets. Some of my favourite spots are the quieter corners of downtown, tucked away streets, interesting building entrances, and simple walls with great textures. We don't need a famous landmark in every photo.


  • Wear something that suits the setting. Formal outfits work especially well downtown. A tailored suit, an elegant dress, or outfits in complementary colours can look great against the city's architecture.



  • Wear comfortable shoes. We'll be walking between locations, so bring comfortable shoes for getting around and change into your dress shoes when needed.


  • Don't worry about posing. You don't need any experience in front of a camera. I'll guide you through poses and give you simple prompts to help you interact naturally. Once you settle in, you may find yourself forgetting the camera is even there.



  • Leave room to explore. I like having a loose plan for our locations, with enough flexibility to stop when we spot a nice backdrop or find a quiet street worth using.
